Manchester United are one of the greatest
club ever, they have a proud history and are one of the biggest club’s in the
world. However in their long history there have been players in this club who
can be called ‘The Bad Boys’ because of the things they did on the pitch or
off-field controversies.
So here is a list of these bad boys:
Roy Keane
One of the finest ever Manchester United
captain, who was an excellent
mid-fielder, however even Keane had his moments of madness at United. Keane
ended Alf-inge Halands’scareer who played for Manchester City, by a revenge
tackle, that almost broke Haland’s leg.
Apart from this, it is also said that he
did not leave United on good terms despite having won many titles and also does
not share a good relationship with his then manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Gary Neville
Though Neville did not really have a bad
character but he was capable of irritating other teams and players with his
taunting and unnecessary celebrations. His biggest controversial moment was
when he made a gesture at Carlos Tevez when Manchester City was playing United
at the Carling Cup after the Argentine joined the club.
Wayne Rooney
The current United captain was said to have
cheated on his wife when she was pregnant with their son Kai, with an escort
named Jennifer, though it did not turn into a huge controversy, he managed to
settle his personal life pretty well. But still, Rooney you bad boy!
Cristiano Ronaldo
One of the world’s best players, Ronaldo, is
also one of the most arrogant players. His biggest controversy was when he announced
that he had become a father. The mother of Cristiano Ronaldo Jr is said to be
an American Waitress who Ronaldo met in Los Angeles. It is also said that
Ronaldo paid her £10 million to
keep her identity a secret.
Carlos Tevez
One of the best strikers of the world, but,
he also is one of the most controversial players. Tevez was given a good
reception at Manchester United but he created a big controversy when he made a
switch to Manchester City, where he become the crucial figure for the club, this
also made him one of the most hated
player at Old Trafford. Though Tevez was an essential player for City but he
did not have a good relation with Roberto Mancini which resulted in, him
sitting on the bench for most of the games. He also had controversy in the game
against Bayern Munich with Roberto Mancini where he refused to come on as a
substitute when City was 2-0 down to the
German club.
Rio Ferdinand
Indeed, he was one of the most important
defender for Manchester United since his big money to Old Trafford. He did have
some off-field controversies which made his life pretty hard.
He got into an argument with “Mirror”
journalist Oliver Holt on Twitter. Rio got banned for a long time when he
missed a drug test. He was also alleged to have affairs with plenty of women
and was also involved in a court case. Ferdinand was stripped of his England captaincy
due to these reasons. In October 2014, Ferdiand was again charged by the FA for
using offensive language on Twitter, after referring to the mother of critic as
a “Sket” a Jamaican slang word for a promiscuous female.
Mickey Thomas
The Welsh footballer has played for several
clubs like Manchester United, Everton, Stoke City and Chelsea but is infamously
remembered for his counterfeit operations, where he laundered fake money
through the trainees at wexham. After getting caught he was sentenced to 18
months in jail.
Ryan Giggs
“Giggsy” one of the greatest players who played under Sir
Alex Ferguson. Giggs always had a good media behind him after he found himself
rocked by the controversy just before Champions League Final against Barcelona,
where details of his affair with Imogen Thomas emerged. Since then, there have
been reports of his involvement with other woman as well. But despite this he
will always be one of the greatest footballer’s who played for Manchester
United.
George Best
One of the greatest players ever was
fantastic during his spell with Manchester United. However, his life after his
career was not that great as he was involved in plenty of controversies. He
became an alcoholic and was also involved in some violence, as it was reported
that he allegedly hit his second wife. It was also reported that Best stole
money from a women’s bag in order to fund his drinking. He was also sentenced
for three months for drunk driving, assaulting a police officer and failing to
answer bail. Best become an alcoholic
and later died at the age of 59 but he will always be considered as one of the
greatest footballers ever.
Eric Cantona
Sir Alex Ferguson made several great
signings in the past but the signing of Eric Cantona has to be considered as
the landmark in his tenure as the manager of the club. Even Cantona had his
moments of madness when he was sent off in a game against Crystal palace in
1995 but that didn’t end here As after the game he did not take the reaction of
the Crystal Palace fan kindly and launched a kick in Kung-fu Style which led
him getting banned for almost 8 months, two week of prison sentence and 120
hours of community service.
